National Library of Latvia

This building caught my attention while I was visiting Riga  and I found myself inside. From the outside, this huge building, which resembles a cruise ship, offers reading rooms on a various subjects (Economy and Rights, Humanities and Social Sciences, Periodicals, Technology and Science, Music, Art, Rarities, Maps…) For children, there is Children’s Literature Centre.

Visitors can access books in Latvian, Chinese, Turkish, French, Estonian, German, Italian, Lithuanian, Porteguese, Russian, Spanish. In total, more than four million items can be found. Another highlight is that first edition of philosopher Immanuel Kant's famous The Critique of Pure Reason is available in NLL.

On the other hand, what makes NLL versatile is that it hosts a variety of exhibitions, concerts and lectures.
If you want to visit there, firstly, you should be a member of the NLL. It offers more than big eight study rooms and free wifi ,computers without paying anything. Just keep this in mind, you can not enter the NLL with your jacket or bags. You have to bring them to the cloack room and luggage room. It needs only 1 euro for locking the box in luggage room, but you'll be able to take the money back from the box when you leave. Moreover, NLL has eight floors, in order to make your job easier, you can ask for a map of this place in reception.

Note : In the first floor it has a pleasant café and a restaurant.

In total, one of the libraries that should be seen. I can't pass without adding that it is just as pleasant to work with the Latvia’s view from the inside of NLL.
